Doyle Field Construction Update July 10, 2006

Our Doyle Field Construction Team of Pat LaPointe, Joan Allen, and Andrew Leonard are pleased to announce the following work progress at the site as of July 10th.

The installation of both the home side and visitor side pre-cast concrete bleacher bases and granite stairs has been completed. The aluminum seats and rails on the home side are 95% complete with the remaining work to be completed by July 14th. The seat and rail installation will begin on the visitor side during the week of July 10th.

EMG will resume installation of the concrete pavers for the walkways at the base of the bleachers on Monday, July 10th. The home side walkway is 30% complete and the visitor side work will start on July 17th.

Masons will start laying block and brick walls for the Doyle Box and Concession Stand/Restrooms on the home side as of July 10th with similar work starting on the Media Box will on July 17th. The Visitor’s Side Concession Stand/Restrooms foundation, floor and rough plumbing will be completed by September 1 but the building will not be usable until a later date.

The Foundation wants to thank the Leominster DPW, Leominster Wire Department, EMG Associates, many in-kind contractors and Joan Allen (Site Engineer) for their tremendous efforts to get this phase of the work done for the September 1st target date. The next construction news update will recognize the contributions of our in-kind contractors to date.

Keep thinking “Drought, Drought, Drought” so we can get the job finished!!!

All funds for the Doyle Field Renovation Project to date have come from private contributions and State Grant dollars. The Doyle Field Foundation is actively seeking financial support from the community for the locker room and plaza construction to complete Phase 1B of the Project. Further fundraising for upgrading the field surface and performance pavilion will be addressed at a later date. Currently Phase 1 has raised $1.8 million dollars through in-kind donations, community donations, private contributions and State Grants. Fund raising will continue until our goal of $4.5 million dollars is reached.

There will be another short construction update at the end of July.

Construction begins at Doyle Field
By Crystal C. Bozek

SENTINEL & ENTERPRISE / CRYSTAL BOZEK Leominster Recreation Director Judith Sumner, EMG Associates CEO T.C. Zimirowski, Mayor Dean Mazzarella, Doyle Field Foundation President Ralph Caisse, and EMG Associates' Andrew Leonard (left to right) break ground at Doyle Field, Thursday morning.

LEOMINSTER-- City officials and residents celebrated a groundbreaking ceremony at Doyle Field on the 40-yard line Thursday morning, as construction crews began laying down the foundation for new bleachers.

Crews began demolishing the bleachers in mid-September, and should begin placing seats by Nov. 3.

"The bleachers are being built into the ground," EMG Associates representative Andrew Leonard said. "The first set is being placed. ... There'll be better views. It will be nice and easy."

Officials continued to encourage the community to get involved with the project -- which will span over 15 years and cost $15 million -- since it would be the only way the project would move on under a tight municipal budget.

The next fundraising event will take place Nov. 19 at the Four Points Sheraton Hotel on Erdman Way.

"The community has a real opportunity to step up to the plate, no pun intended," Mayor Dean Mazzarella said before putting on a ceremonial hard hat.

Leominster Athletic Director Chris Young said he visits the site almost everyday.

"We've had decent size crowds with minimal seating," Young said. "We were very lucky we had all away games during the messy (storm weather.)"

Young said the Thanksgiving Day game location still hasn't been decided.

"It's a constant evaluation," he said.
